Outfit Ideas for Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I am almost always late to the game with new technology. I didn’t get my first smartphone until 2015, when I was about to be a senior in high school. I didn’t get a Nintendo 3DS and Animal Crossing: New Leaf until 2016, three years after its initial release. And I never got a Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing: New Horizons until . . . wait a minute, I still don’t have them!

As a result of this depressing fact, I have rediscovered the joys of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Since the beginning of quarantine (and around the release of New Horizons) I have been dutifully attending to my New Leaf town more than ever before in a desperate effort to feel somewhat more connected to the gaming community. For those of you who usually can’t quite afford the luxury of purchasing new technology as it’s released, you know what I’m talking about.

For whatever reason, if you’re still playing New Leaf in 2020, this post is for you!

I have only recently acquired Katrina’s Fortune-Telling Shop and have even more recently acquired my first lovely phone. Subsequently, I have become obsessed with wearing a lucky item every day, if I can. Because of my appreciation for fashion and the massive number of clothing options in the game (which I know pales in comparison to New Horizons but just give me this) I have been putting together a new outfit every day that includes and complements the lucky item of the day. No QR download outfits here! I may be a bit late to the party on this topic, but it doesn’t need to be relevant to be fun, right?

Hopefully, this can help someone! I couldn’t find a lot of sources on this specific topic so I thought I should make my own. Sorry for the bad screenshots of the outfits, if somehow I get a lot of traffic on this post I will go through the trouble of taking proper pics with my 3DS and download them to my computer. Alright, fine, I'll stop blabbering now and post some pictures!

If you're looking for an outfit that includes a specific lucky item, use Ctrl+F to search the page to find them! For example, if your fortune is "men's bottoms," search the word 'masculine' and arrow through until you find one that goes with some bottoms. Use the word 'feminine' when looking for women's clothing. You can also search by theme. For example, if your fortune is "ornate accessory," search the word 'ornate' and arrow through the results until you find one!

ACNL Outfit Ideas

I'll start with my favorite outfit; my villager Nattie's 'signature' style!

This is what I chose for Nattie to wear almost every day before I had consistent access to a daily fortune. This outfit consists of a Moon Hairpin (cute, yellow, unique, feminine), Overall Dress (cute, blue/white, H-striped, feminine), Black Leggings (cute, black, socks, feminine), and Yellow Buckled Shoes (cute, yellow, feminine). Yes, every item in this outfit is part of the 'cute' theme! I think this outfit was born before I realized that Gracie was more impressed with fashion checks when one article of clothing is a different theme than the rest. Nevertheless, I fell in love with this simple and sweet look!

I'm not typically a fan of the athletic style, but this next look changed my mind!

I forget exactly what fortune inspired this outfit, but I just love how it turned out. This feminine and sporty outfit includes a Star Cap (sporty, pink, fairy tale, print), optional Oval Shades (modern, white/black, trendy), Cow Tank (flashy, white/black, animal-print), Black Track Pants (sporty, black), and Pink Sneakers (cute, pink, fairy tale, feminine).

I like to call this my 'Spring-cleaning outfit!'

I really love the Do-rag headgear! I just think it has such a cute, kind of vintage feel to it. I picture this outfit fitting in well in the sixties and seventies. But I was born in the nineties so what do I know! Do-rag (basic, yellow/orange, print, feminine), Loud Bloom Tee (cute, green/white, rustic, print), Dry-denim Pants (basic, blue, masculine), and Yellow Buckled Shoes (cute, yellow, feminine).

I think that the pieces in this outfit were meant to be put together!

This is what I will usually wear when my boyfriend comes to visit my town (he doesn't have a Switch yet, either)! It's very girly and pink, which makes it perfect for a "date" but not for every day! Flashy Hairpin (ornate, trendy, unique, feminine), Dazed Dress (cute, pink/purple, plaid, feminine), Bobby Socks (basic, white, socks, feminine), and Pink Slip-Ons (cute, pink, fairy tale, plaid, feminine).

Okay, okay, not all of the outfits need to be cute!

Soooo this is not an outfit that screams 'stylish,' but so far it is my favorite one that I've created that utilizes the King's Beard, which is the only ornate accessory in the game. Coincidentally, 'ornate accessory' is the lucky item so often in my ACNL town that I decided to finally just hang on to one. Although Nattie doesn't typically sport facial hair, I think the 'retired sea captain' look suits her just fine once in a while! Captain's Hat (official, white, sci-fi, toy shop, unique), King's Beard (ornate, white, masculine), Blue Aloha Tee (iconic, blue, print), Black-denim Pants (basic, black), and White Leather Shoes (official, white, unique, masculine).

It may be a bit literal, but this outfit really does look great during a meteor shower!

Just a pretty little outfit to wear while you play at night! Perhaps during a meteor shower, fireworks show, or just an average evening. Star Hairpin (cute, yellow, unique, feminine), Twinkle Tank Dress (flashy, blue/white, print, feminine), Black Tights (official, black, socks, feminine), and Black Pumps (official, black, feminine).

This outfit reminds me so much of my middle-school days. Ugh. In a good way? Maybe?

The shearling boots, hair bow, and ripped jeans are so reminiscent of my past seventh-grade style that it makes it difficult for me to post. But what the heck. Embrace the cringe. Blue Ribbon (cute, blue, fairy tale, unique, feminine), Blue-check Tee (basic, blue/white, plaid), Worn-out Jeans (rock-n'-roll, blue), and Shearling Boots (cute, yellow, feminine).

Where would we be without the Celebration Hat? Very unlucky, probably.

This one is for the ever-too-often days when I have no way of acquiring the lucky item of the day. I prefer not to time travel so if I start playing too late to make a last-minute clothing order there's really no other option to boost my luck aside for the Celebration Hat! As of yet, I have not created a look to go along with the Tingle Hood (for obvious reasons) but I haven't entirely ruled it out. Maybe one day . . . Celebration Hat (iconic, red, harmonious), Garden Tank (cute, red/white, rustic, fairy tale, print, feminine), Pleather Pants (rock-'n'-roll, black), and Red Boat Shoes (cute, red, feminine).

Yeah, this one is kinda hipster.

If you need a good old classic hipster outfit, here you go! I just really wanted to find something to go with the Paperboy Cap. I think it's so precious. Paperboy Cap (iconic, aqua), Thick Glasses (iconic, black), Blue Flannel Shirt (basic, blue/black, plaid), Black-denim Pants (basic, black), and Hiking Boots (sport, red/black, unique).

Another sporty look! This one doubles as a fashion check outfit, too.

I accidentally snapped Nattie giving me some attitude in the pic on the right. Honestly, it kind of matches the vibe of this sporty-yet-cool outfit! Blue Cap (sporty, blue, unique), Oval Shades (modern, white/black, trendy), Blue Jacket (sporty, blue), Black Track Pants (sporty, black), and Blue Sneakers (sporty, blue/white, unique, masculine).

This little number is sponsored by Gracie's boutique!

I absolutely love this dress! It reminds me of something that a very chic woman might wear. Floppy Hat (ornate, black, trendy, feminine), Butterfly Dress (ornate, colorful/black, fairy tale, quirky, print, feminine), and Green Polka Pumps (cute, green/white, dotted, feminine).

I really like this preppy and plaid school look!

Nattie wears this school uniform well! Sometimes she just wants to feel more intelligent. Thick Glasses (iconic, black), Plaid Cami Dress (cute, gray/black, plaid, feminine), White Stockings (official, red/white, socks, feminine), and Mary Janes (official, black, feminine).

This outfit combines two of my favorite things, gardening, and the color green!

Okay, maybe I wouldn't necessarily consider gardening as one of my favorite things, I mean more like buying plants from the store, badly propagating them, investing myself in them for a year, forgetting to water them ONE TIME and then they leave me forever. I may have gone a bit dark there, but it's the truth. Anywho, if I had this outfit in real life, I would definitely wear it while tending to my plants that will inevitably break my heart. Straw Hat (iconic, brown), Green-stripe Tank (sporty, green), Chino Pants (basic, beige), and Green Sandals (basic, green/brown).

This look reads 'girl next door' to me. Not sure why, but I love it!

First of all, this top is soooo cute! I wish I owned it in real life, seriously! I know there's a dress in this game that looks just like it, too, but I haven't been able to find it yet. One day my dream will come true. Heart Hairpin (cute, pink, fairy tale, unique, feminine), Pastel-stripe Tee (iconic, colorful/white, H-striped), Dry-denim Pants (basic, blue, masculine), and Pink Sneakers (cute, pink, fairy tale, feminine).

This one is kind of a cross-over between my two favorite sporty-inspired outfits.

I'm not sure what to call this look yet, but it does have a very specific vibe that I've been unable to pin down so far. If anyone is actually reading this, let me know what you think it should be called! Blue Cap (sport, blue, unique), Thick Glasses (iconic, black), Cow Tank (flashy, white/black, animal-print), Black Track Pants (sporty, black), and Blue Sneakers (sporty, blue/white, unique, masculine).

This outfit makes me internally say 'awwww'

This is just a simple, summery look for a simple summer day. Plus this dress always reminds me of Stitches, and that's never a bad thing! Straw Hat (iconic, brown), Star Tank Dress (flashy, colorful/white, print, feminine), and Green Sandals (basic, green/brown).

This outfit shouldn't work but it does. In the best possible way.

I adore this funky vintage outfit! All the prints clash perfectly, in my opinion. It just makes me really happy to look at. Do-rag (basic, yellow/orange, print, feminine), Huge Shades (flashy, red/black, trendy, feminine), Cool Tank (modern, colorful/white, trendy, print), Chino Pants (basic, beige), and Leopard Pumps (ornate, yellow/brown, animal-print, feminine).

This was an outfit built on desperate necessity.

The Bug-Off was the same day that I created this outfit. When I used the lovely phone, it revealed that my lucky item was the orange sandals, which I didn't have! Since I really wanted an extra lucky boost that day, I had to order the shoes and a top that would match them, then wait until five for my delivery, then frantically catch bugs around town between five and six before the end of the Bug-Off. This is the only shirt that was in my catalog at the time that I thought matched the orange sandals well enough to meet my standards. Thankfully, they ended up looking cute enough together for me to post! Straw boater (basic, brown, trendy),  Gumdrop Tee (cute, green/pink, trendy, dotted, feminine), Dry-denim Skirt (rock-'n'-roll, blue, feminine), and Orange Sandals (cute, orange, feminine).

I don't care that the socks clash!

The purple star socks match the colors of the belt on the spring kimono so well that I almost didn't have a choice but to combine them. Yes, the patterns clash, but it's cute and I love it. This look could also be a fashion check look for the 'cute' theme! Yellow Ribbon (cute, yellow, fairy tale, unique, feminine), Spring Kimono  (iconic, aqua/pink, harmonious, rustic, print, feminine), Purple Star Socks (cute, yellow/purple, socks), and Yellow Buckled Shoes (cute, yellow, feminine).

Is this what people wear to go golfing? In my mind it is.

Thanks to a fortune of  'argyle top,' I was inspired to create this sensible golfing outfit! I made a skirt version and a pants version to show the versatility of this practical tee-time uniform. Paperboy Cap (iconic, aqua), Silver Frames (iconic, white), Cyan Argyle Tank (basic, aqua/gray, argyle), Gray Formal Skirt (basic, gray, feminine) or Gray Formal Pants (official, gray, masculine), White Socks (basic, white, socks), and White Leather Shoes (official, white, unique, masculine).

Could be a hipster, could be a grandpa. No one knows.

I love the grandpa hat and I don't get enough excuses to wear it. This look reads 'stylish grandpa' or 'hipster grandpa chic.' Do as you will with that information. Grandpa Hat (iconic, gray), Thick Glasses (iconic, black), Folk Shirt (iconic, red/white, print), Patched-knee Pants (iconic, red/black), and White Leather Shoes (official, white, unique, masculine).

Sweet, summer rain!

I love how this sweet and summery look complements the daisy umbrella! Bun Wig (cute, harmonious, white/black, feminine), Denim Vest (rock-'n'-roll, blue, masculine), Pastel-check Skirt (cute, plaid, colorful, feminine), Tropical Sandals (iconic, print, colorful, feminine), and Daisy Umbrella (rustic/fairy tale, pink/white).

I FINALLY was able to catalog the Aurora Knit Shirt!

Thanks to a random handout from Willow, I was finally able to catalog this top! Also, seriously loving the 'stink eye' in this pic! Paperboy Cap (iconic, aqua), Aurora Knit Shirt (cute, print, colorful/white), Worn-Out Jeans (rock-'n'-roll, blue), and Yellow Sneakers (sporty, yellow/orange, feminine).

A special rainy-day look!

I truly believe that the kids' smock and the yellow rain boots were meant to go together! The combo looks so precious to me! Star Hairpin (cute, unique, yellow, feminine), Kids' Smock (cute, aqua, unique), Gray-Stripe Pants (basic, H-striped, gray), Yellow Rain Boots (cute, yellow), and Daisy Umbrella (rustic/fairy tale, pink/white).

Christmas inspired!

I liked two different options for this outfit, one with patched-knee pants for a more wintry look, and military pants for a more Christmas-y feel. Red Pom-Pom Hat (cute, red/white), Folk Shirt (iconic, print, red/white), Patched-Knee Pants (iconic, red/black) or Military Pants (official, antique, green, masculine), and Hiking Boots (sporty, unique, red/black).

Yes . . . another paperboy cap outfit.

Paperboy Cap (iconic, aqua), Gumdrop Tee (cute, trendy, dotted, green/pink, feminine), Pep-Squad Skirt (sporty, white, feminine), Bobby Socks (basic, white, feminine), and Pink Sneakers (cute, fairy tale, pink, feminine).

~~~
Well, that's all I have for now! I will try to update this every few days when I've got a few new outfit ideas stacked up and ready to go. I really hope I was able to reach some of my Animal Crossing-obsessed yet New Horizons-challenged kindred spirits out there. Please let me know if you enjoyed it!
See ya next time or something,
